BRITTANY PURR-BREHONY ED.D DISSERTATION DEFENSE. The College of Education hosted a public oral dissertation defense by Brittany Purr-Brehony entitled, "Transforming the Urban Educator: The Power of Reflection and Its Effect on Teacher Perception, Essential Teaching Dispositions, and Teacher Leadership." The defense took place Friday, April 9th, The dissertation-in-practice is, in many ways, a compromise on the historical requirement that students must complete a dissertation in order to earn their doctorate, and the central mission of the Ed.D. degree to train students to be advanced scholar-practitioners (i.e. educational leaders who use research to solve education problems and challenges in their place of practice) Dissertation Seminar V parallels EDD (a-c) to provide doctoral candidates further direction and strategies in implementing the comprehensive dissertation proposal, addressing challenges that arise in the collection and analysis of data, organizing and writing chapter 4 and chapter 5 of the final dissertation document, and preparing for the dissertation oral defense as outlined in the doctoral
